“Britain’s NCP Enters Administration, Site Closures Loom”

Date:

Britain’s largest car park operator, National Car Parks (NCP), has entered administration, leading to potential site closures. With 682 employees and approximately 340 car parks nationwide, NCP has struggled financially post-Covid due to decreased parking demand, especially in urban and commuter areas. The company’s fixed costs and underutilized spaces have contributed to ongoing losses.

Joint Administrators Zelf Hussain, Rachael Wilkinson, and Toby Banfield from PwC are tasked with stabilizing the business and evaluating future options. Discussions with site owners will focus on cost reduction strategies, including the potential sale of the entire or partial business. Site closures may be necessary as part of the restructuring process.

Hussain highlighted the challenges faced by NCP in recent years, emphasizing the need to review all locations for viability. Despite financial difficulties, all sites remain operational, and employees are unaffected. PwC aims to engage with stakeholders to secure the best outcome for creditors.

Established in London in 1931 and owned by Park24 of Japan, NCP reported significant net losses and liabilities. The company attributed its financial decline to reduced post-pandemic demand, increasing operating costs, and cash-flow constraints. Efforts to boost revenue through new developments and cost-cutting measures proved insufficient, leading to the decision to enter administration.

Park24 expressed commitment to supporting the administration process. The company’s Board of Directors opted for administration to safeguard creditors’ interests amid financial challenges and funding constraints. Park24 will cooperate in the orderly management of the administration process.
