A man from the United Kingdom has passed away following an avalanche incident while skiing in the French Alps.

Reportedly in his 50s, the man was skiing off-piste at the La Plagne resort in southeastern France, as confirmed by the resort.

Rescue teams were alerted to an avalanche situation at 1:57 pm on Sunday, prompting a swift response with approximately 52 individuals, including medics, ski instructors, and a piste dog deployed via helicopter, mobilized to assist the English skier in distress.

After an extensive 50-minute search effort, the man was located buried under 2.5 meters of snow, according to the resort’s statement.
