Despite the enchanting day, the cold March weather brought thick fog, slightly obscuring the hill’s beauty.
While a hike is often a part of a visit to the Peaks, Lud’s Church near Buxton offers a shorter and easier option. Located less than a 20-minute drive from town, this popular route features gentle terrain leading to a hidden paradise.
Beginning at The Roaches Gradbach Car Park, we embarked on the walk, following signposts that guided us past a scout camp, along a rocky path through farmers’ fields, and eventually to a serene bridge.
The journey through forests led us to the mystical gorge illuminated by vibrant green moss, evoking a sense of discovery akin to a scene from a fantastical movie.
After emerging from the gorge, the walk became mostly flat, allowing for a leisurely stroll through the trees back to the starting point. While the walk typically takes two hours, we completed it in an hour and a half, driven by the anticipation of lunch.
