A Manchester salon owner had a frightening experience when a car crashed into her store as she was preparing to close for the day.
Ndeye Sarr, aged 50, was inside Dixa Hair and Beauty on Hyde Road at approximately 6 pm on Thursday, January 8, when the unexpected collision took place.
Following the incident, Ms. Sarr went to the hospital for a check-up but fortunately escaped any severe injuries. She mentioned that a female employee, who was waiting for her bus outside, narrowly dodged danger. Ms. Sarr had called her back inside to avoid the cold weather, potentially preventing a more serious outcome.
Reflecting on the crash, Ms. Sarr expressed her shock and mentioned that she is still grappling with how close everyone came to being seriously hurt.
Recounting the event to Manchester Evening News, Ms. Sarr explained, “I usually close around six. One of my employees was waiting for her bus. I asked her to wait inside to watch for the bus as it was cold outside.”
She described hearing a loud noise suddenly, which prompted her to shield her eyes as shattered glass flew around. Both she and the employee were hit by glass fragments, resulting in minor scratches on her hands. They were at the hospital until 1:30 am, dealing with the bleeding. Despite feeling shocked at the time, Ms. Sarr noticed blood coming from her hand but thankfully, no glass was found inside the wound.
Struggling to speak due to the rapid events and shock, Ms. Sarr mentioned that the police were questioning her about the incident.
Running the salon for six years, Ms. Sarr shared that she is still in some pain but has reopened the business to serve her clients. She expressed feeling headaches and fatigue, attributing it to stress, while appreciating the supportive customers who have been checking on her.
Concerned about the repair costs, which could amount to thousands, as she works on restoring the salon’s condition, Ms. Sarr highlighted that Hyde Road had to be closed for several hours for emergency services to handle the aftermath.
According to the police, a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without a license.
