“UK Urged to Push Remote Work Amid Energy Crisis”

Date:

The call has been made for the government to promote remote work among the British populace in order to mitigate potential energy shortages linked to the recent conflict in Iran.

Professor Nick Butler, a former high-ranking executive at the oil company BP, suggested that it would be wise for officials to advise employees to work from home. He cautioned that diesel prices could surpass £2 per liter by a significant margin.

The escalation in oil prices following the outbreak of hostilities involving the US, Israel, and Iran has led to a notable increase in fuel costs and raised concerns about potential supply constraints in the near future.

Professor Butler highlighted that some countries, especially in Asia, have already adopted additional work-from-home measures in response to the crisis. He emphasized the importance of testing public willingness to adapt, noting that people tend to follow suit when others do the same.

When asked about the government’s role in advocating for remote work, Prof Butler endorsed the idea as a sensible approach. He also warned that diesel prices could continue to surge, predicting that the most severe impacts on costs and availability would likely materialize by the end of April and early May.

RAC’s head of policy, Simon Williams, reported a recent pause in the upward trend of pump prices, indicating a possible decline in the coming days due to lower wholesale fuel expenses. Williams expressed hope that drivers might soon experience relief at the gas station, with petrol and diesel prices expected to decrease by several pence per liter shortly.

As consumers face the financial strain of higher fuel costs, the potential easing of prices offers a glimmer of hope for motorists grappling with the financial burden of filling up their vehicles amidst the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
