An NBA game between the Golden State Warriors and Minnesota Timberwolves has been postponed following a fatal shooting by an ICE agent in downtown Minneapolis. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that the match has been rescheduled for Sunday at 4:30 pm local time after an unarmed man was killed by federal agents during a protest.
The NBA issued an official statement explaining that the decision to postpone the game was made to prioritize the safety of the Minneapolis community. The rescheduled game will now take place on January 25 at 4:30 pm CT at Target Center.
ESPN host Ernie Johnson announced the game’s postponement live on air, expressing his inability to provide further details. Johnson sought a reaction from fellow ESPN analyst Charles Barkley, who emphasized the need for maturity in handling such incidents, stating that the loss of lives is deeply saddening.
The shooting incident occurred near the Target Center, with the shooter’s identity yet to be disclosed. This is not the first instance of a game being postponed due to a shooting involving law enforcement. In a similar vein, during the 2020 NBA playoffs in the Florida bubble, a Milwaukee Bucks’ game was called off as players protested against the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a Milwaukee resident.
