“Stay in a Welsh UFO: Airbnb’s Out-of-This-World Glamping Experience”

Date:

In the scenic countryside of Pembrokeshire, a peculiar sight may catch your eye – what appears to be an extraterrestrial craft landed on Earth. But fear not, there are no aliens lurking about. You’ve simply stumbled upon a one-of-a-kind Airbnb experience.

Nestled along a secluded country lane near the Welsh village of Templeton lies the Melin Mabes glamping site. Offering three distinct accommodations amidst nature’s embrace – a traditional caravan, a treehouse, and the most unconventional choice, the Spodnic UFO. Once featured on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, this cosmic-themed retreat is housed in a small fibreglass structure acquired by the owners on eBay.

Originally constructed for London’s 2012 Olympics to house generators, the ‘UFO’ was reimagined by the owners into a quirky staycation spot. The interior is adorned with silver walls, sci-fi decorations, and whimsical details, featuring a double bed, bunk beds, and an inflatable alien for up to four guests to enjoy.

At the heart of the pod stands a ladder leading to a platform with a glass dome, perfect for stargazing or relishing views of the Welsh countryside. Outside, a covered kitchen area boasts essential amenities like a fridge, cooker, and running water, complemented by a dining space.

One of the most entertaining features is the bathroom, cleverly designed within a replica TARDIS box, complete with a private shower, toilet, and sink for utmost convenience.

Adjacent to the Spodnic, a private hot tub and outdoor shower await, while the enclosed outdoor space allows furry friends to roam freely.

Just a brief drive from the village, a charming pub and cottages await your exploration. Nearby, the Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo offers wholesome family entertainment with fairground rides, a zoo, farm exhibits, and play activities. Accommodation options like lodges and glamping are available, providing guests with complimentary access to the attractions.

A 15-minute drive leads to Saundersfoot Beach, a sprawling Blue Flag beach with shallow, pristine waters ideal for family outings. The beach encompasses a working harbour and a historic lighthouse, with local restaurants offering freshly caught seafood near the bustling harbor.
