Prince Andrew’s Epstein Correspondence: Redactions Spark Outrage

Date:

Epstein documents linked to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor have undergone unexplained redactions following recent revelations about the ex-Prince. The 65-year-old royal has been prominently featured in the latest batch of 3.5 million files unveiled by the US Department of Justice. While these documents do not implicate Andrew in any misconduct, which he has consistently denied, they have caused embarrassment for the royal family. The correspondence reveals Andrew’s efforts to arrange meetings for Epstein, and photos show him with a redacted woman.

Since the Epstein files gained significant public attention, numerous new documents mentioning him have been altered. Journalists identified the former Duke in the files using his previous email address starting with “tdoy” for “The Duke of York.” Previously, searching those initials would yield nearly 100 emails involving Andrew, with only partial redaction. However, the email address has now been entirely redacted, making it challenging to review related documents.

These revelations have intensified criticism over the redactions in the post-release documents, with survivors and US politicians condemning what they view as excessive redacting by the DOJ. Initially, some victim identities were inadequately redacted, sparking immediate backlash. US Epstein survivor Jess Michaels expressed frustration at the hasty redactions on the Andrew files, labeling it a hindrance to justice and a cover-up.

The survivors also pointed out an issue where the identities of several victims were not properly redacted in emails, including email addresses and nude photos, leading to easy identification. They deemed this disclosure outrageous and a form of retraumatization for the victims. While the DOJ claims to prioritize transparency, Attorney General Pam Bondi has faced criticism for her handling of the files.

Calls are mounting for the complete release of the files without redactions of alleged perpetrators’ identities, which have been seen by US representatives.
