The final words of a tourist who tragically lost her life in a horrific shark attack on the last day of her vacation have been revealed.
An Austrian woman, aged 68, passed away due to severe shock while being transported in an ambulance after suffering the loss of an arm and a leg during a shark attack at a popular Egyptian resort in July 2022. Disturbing video footage captured her struggling to swim back to shore after the attack in the Red Sea. The incident took place at Sahl Hasheesh, a well-known bay on Egypt’s Red Sea coast, close to Hurghada.
In response to the incident, authorities imposed a temporary ban on swimming, diving, snorkelling, and fishing in the area extending to Makadi Bay for a three-day period, according to local sources. The woman’s last words, as reported by MailOnline, were spoken to her partner just before the tragic event: “I’ll go back in for a moment.”
Horrified Russian tourists filmed the scene and criticized the lack of lifeguards or rescue personnel present.
Witnesses observed the woman’s blood in the water as she struggled, wearing a flipper, to reach a nearby jetty.
Despite a large crowd witnessing the distressing incident, no one intervened to help the injured woman.
According to some reports, other tourists tried to distract the shark from the victim by leaving the water when the attack occurred.
The victim was said to be married to an Egyptian man and residing with him in the country.
Russian witnesses confirmed that she lost an arm but did not mention a severed leg.
One witness stated: “People were rushing out of the sea. There was no ambulance or assistance available.
“She had lost her arm up to her elbow. The shark grabbed her and twisted her around.”
In a video, distressed Russian tourists can be heard shouting: “Where are the rescuers? She’s covered in blood. The shark bit off her arm.
“Where is the rescue team? Where are the lifeguards? She’s in danger.”
Despite managing to reach the shore, the woman ultimately succumbed to severe shock from the shark attack.
Medical professionals made efforts to resuscitate her but unfortunately could not save her life, as per reports.
