“UK Woman undergoes quadruple amputation after dog lick”

Date:

A woman in the UK has undergone quadruple amputation after contracting a severe infection believed to have originated from her pet dog licking her leg. Manjit Sangha, 56, recently returned home after spending 32 weeks in the hospital battling sepsis, enduring six cardiac arrests, and developing pneumonia, leading to the amputation of all four limbs.

Medical professionals suspect that the sepsis may have been triggered by the dog licking a minor wound on her leg. Sepsis can be fatal when the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks its own tissues instead of combating infections.

Manjit’s husband, Kam Sangha, expressed astonishment at the rapid deterioration of her health. Kam, who works at Screwfix and took time off to support his wife, praised her resilience and courage throughout the ordeal.

Following her initial symptoms on July 14 last year, Manjit’s condition worsened rapidly, resulting in multiple heart failures and the need for amputations. Besides the amputations, she also had her spleen removed, battled pneumonia, and developed gallstones, potentially requiring further medical procedures and an extended hospital stay.

Now back home, the couple is seeking financial support for advanced prosthetics, including robotic hands, through fundraising efforts. They have raised over $27,000 via GoFundMe and initiatives at Screwfix.
