A massive 150kg shark was caught from the depths of a harbor where a 12-year-old boy tragically died in a shark attack. The bull shark, weighing as much as a large piano, was captured off the coast of Clifton Gardens at the entrance of Sydney harbor in Australia. This incident occurred shortly after Nico Antic’s fatal mauling on January 18 when he jumped into the harbor from nearby rocks with friends.
Following a series of shark attacks in Sydney since the start of the year, the shark was discovered closest to the location where the young boy was attacked. Fisherman Chris Allchin, who had been searching the area where the attack happened, decided to venture into the waters on a spur-of-the-moment decision. He recounted being harnessed and chained to a fishing rod in an attempt to lure the massive shark, with his friends assisting when needed.
Nico, a resident of North Bondi, fought for his life for over a week after the attack before succumbing to his injuries. Described as a cheerful and athletic boy by his parents, the community has come together to support the grieving family. Nico’s parents expressed their gratitude to the first responders and medical teams who cared for Nico during his final days.
The tragic shark attack on Nico was part of a series of incidents along the New South Wales coast, including an attack on North Steyne Beach where a 27-year-old suffered severe leg injuries. Another shark encounter further up the coast left a young surfer unharmed after his board was damaged.
