Following a three-day camping trip, the body of a 16-year-old boy has been discovered in a national park located in Australia. The teenager went missing during the excursion and was found deceased in the Blue Mountains, approximately 60km away from Sydney, on Thursday, January 29. Authorities located the boy with the assistance of a rescue helicopter that was involved in the search operation after he embarked on the camping journey on Tuesday, January 27, accompanied by his 17-year-old friend.
The two teenagers journeyed to Leura Train Station before continuing on foot to Mt Hay, as reported by officers from the Blue Mountains Police Area Command. On Wednesday, January 28, at around 5.45pm, the 17-year-old activated his personal locator beacon upon getting separated from his companion. Subsequently, a search effort, both on land and in the air, was initiated. While the 17-year-old was successfully rescued from the Acacia Flats camping area, the whereabouts of the 16-year-old remained unknown.
The search operation, involving local law enforcement, the Blue Mountains Rescue Squad, PolAir, NSW Ambulance paramedics, and the TOLL Rescue Helicopter, persisted. Ultimately, the body of the missing teenager was discovered in a creek within Blue Gum Forest at approximately 1pm on Thursday. Police will compile a detailed report for the Coroner’s information concerning the teenager’s demise. A post-mortem examination is scheduled for the upcoming days to ascertain the cause of death, with a subsequent report to be prepared accordingly for the Coroner’s review.
