Police have disclosed the final movements of a 45-year-old man who was discovered deceased by a student on a school sports field during a physical education class today.
Following the unsettling discovery made by an 11-year-old schoolgirl at Smestow Academy in Wolverhampton, the school was closed, and students were provided with counseling support. The young girl was described as “screaming” and visibly shaken by the incident.
The man, found with injuries, was located within the premises of Smestow Academy in Windmill Crescent, Castlecroft, by West Midlands Police around 10 a.m. Emergency services responded promptly, but unfortunately, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities identified the man with the assistance of specialist officers who are now aiding his family.
Reports indicate that the man was last seen on Wheatsheaf Road at approximately 1 a.m., about three-and-a-half miles from the school. Subsequently, he was sighted on the school grounds at 7:15 a.m.
West Midlands Police are treating the man’s death as unexplained and are actively seeking information from anyone who may have encountered him between 1 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. The man was described as wearing a unique camouflage jacket, grey gilet, jeans, and a beanie hat, carrying a red rucksack, and possibly sporting sunglasses.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Poole from the Homicide Unit emphasized the early stage of the investigation and urged the public to refrain from speculating about the circumstances surrounding the incident. Additional police presence is ensured in the area for community reassurance, and individuals who saw the victim in the early hours of the morning are urged to contact the authorities.
