A mother was surprised to find fentanyl concealed inside a Barbie doll box she purchased for her young daughter. Jade Adams bought the tampered doll at Cargo Largo in Independence on March 21 while shopping with her family.
The Independence Police Department was alerted by Cargo Largo Security about a suspicious powder substance in the Barbie Doll packaging around 10:18 am. The substance was confirmed to be fentanyl, leading to an investigation to determine the extent of compromised units sold.
It was revealed that five compromised units were sold, with four units successfully tracked down. One unit remains missing, but authorities are actively pursuing leads to locate it. The investigation confirmed that the Barbie Dolls themselves were not tampered with, as the fentanyl was found taped inside the packaging. No reports of injuries have been made, and there is no indication that compromised units were distributed to other retailers.
In response, Adams returned to the store to alert the staff about removing the dolls from the shelves. Expressing her fear of potential harm, she emphasized the danger posed to children if exposed to the drug unintentionally.
