Lawrence Okolie has hinted that his bicep injury treatment may have caused his recent failed drug test. The former champion was set to fight Tony Yoka in Paris as part of his move to the heavyweight division.
His promoter, Queensberry, revealed that a test conducted by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association showed an adverse finding. Okolie took to social media to explain that he had received treatment for an elbow injury on the same arm following a previous bicep injury. He expressed confidence in cooperating with authorities to clear his name.
Okolie and Yoka were both competitors at the Rio Olympics in 2016, with Yoka winning gold in a controversial final. Okolie transitioned to become a world champion at cruiserweight before moving up to bridgerweight and then heavyweight. He expressed readiness and confidence in his upcoming fight with Yoka.
The boxer emphasized feeling at his peak in the heavyweight division and saw the fight as a significant opportunity for him. Okolie highlighted his opponent’s experience but believed that momentum was on his side for the upcoming bout.
