A man who lost his wife was surprised when he received his bill for a meal at a beloved restaurant only to find out that it had already been paid for by other diners.
Bob Leigh, a widower, visited Caffé Caruso in Warrington, Cheshire, on his 86th birthday, dressed in his best suit. He ordered two glasses of wine, a curry chicken pasta priced at £13.70, a dessert, and an Irish coffee.
After enjoying his meal, the former rugby league referee asked to settle his £38 bill. To his astonishment, the manager informed him that it had been taken care of by the neighboring table. Bob had engaged in conversation with them during his meal, and they decided to make the kind gesture.
Expressing his gratitude, Bob approached the diners to express that he couldn’t accept their generosity, but they insisted on covering the bill.
He shared with the BBC, “With all the turmoil in the world like Ukraine, Venezuela, and Trump, this act of kindness warms my heart.”
Despite not mentioning his wife’s passing, Bob shared that it was his birthday during the conversation with the diners. They mentioned that they had discussed it amongst themselves and were determined to pay for his meal.
Bob is a frequent visitor to Caffé Caruso and is often seen there multiple times a week, sometimes just for a coffee.
A representative from Caffe Caruso commented that such acts of kindness were not uncommon at their establishment, as patrons sometimes choose to pay for the meals of individuals dining alone.
