Trump Addresses Iran Situation Amidst Confusion

Date:

President Trump, before departing for Ohio and later Kentucky, addressed questions regarding the situation in Iran. Despite avoiding a direct response on US strikes impacting a girls’ school and civilian casualties, he emphasized that there could be more developments in Iran. The decision to target Iran has been surrounded by confusion, with conflicting messages from Trump and his administration regarding the rationale, timing, and objectives of the attacks.

When asked about the conditions for declaring victory in Iran, Trump indicated that more of the same actions were needed to assess the outcome. In light of concerns about commercial tankers navigating the Strait of Hormuz, a key sea passage for oil transportation, Trump expressed his belief that tankers should continue using the route, citing the elimination of Iranian mine ships in a single night.

Regarding reports of Iran mining the Strait, Trump stated that there was no confirmation of such activities. He refrained from commenting on the potential implications of Mojtaba Khamenei becoming Iran’s supreme leader or addressing the airstrike that tragically hit the Shajarah Tayyebeh elementary school, resulting in significant casualties, including children. Reports attributing responsibility for the strike to a US military targeting error near a Naval base were not addressed by Trump, who claimed ignorance of the investigation’s findings.
