“Former Conservative MP Crispin Blunt Faces Drug Offense Charges”

Date:

A former Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) is facing charges related to drug offenses, specifically possession of Class A and Class B substances.

Crispin Blunt, who represented Reigate as an MP from 1997 to 2024, will be brought to court next week to address four charges. The Crown Prosecution Service disclosed that he was apprehended in 2023 in connection with a separate issue.

Mr. Blunt, who previously held a junior ministerial position under David Cameron and chaired the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, is accused of possessing a Class A drug and three charges linked to Class B substances.

Malcolm McHaffie, the Head of the Crown Prosecution Service’s Special Crime Division, announced the decision to charge Crispin Blunt, aged 65, with four drug offenses – one involving a Class A controlled substance and three related to Class B drugs.

The charges stem from a police visit to Mr. Blunt’s residence in Horley on October 25, 2023, which was unrelated to the drug charges.

Prosecutors have ensured there is adequate evidence to proceed with the case and have determined that pursuing criminal proceedings is in the public interest.

Collaborating closely with Surrey Police during their investigation, it is emphasized that fair trial rights for the defendant must be respected, and any reporting or online content that could bias the proceedings should be avoided.

Crispin Blunt is scheduled to attend Westminster Magistrates’ Court on March 25. The alleged Class A substance is methylamphetamine, while the Class B substances are claimed to be GBL, cannabis, and amphetamine.
