A 17-year-old teenager from Russia, Andrey Retrovesky, tragically lost his life after falling from the rooftop of a tall building due to his penchant for taking risky selfies in dangerous locations. Andrey’s adventurous Instagram posts often depicted him hanging precariously from high-rise buildings and standing on the edges of structures. The fatal incident occurred in Vologda, where Andrey, accompanied by a friend, attempted to stage a photo showing him falling off the building’s roof. Unfortunately, the safety rope securing him failed, leading to his fall. Despite landing in bushes that softened the impact, Andrey sustained severe injuries and succumbed to them in the hospital a couple of hours later.
In a separate incident last September, Elizaveta ‘Liza’ Gushchina, 45, met a tragic end during her adrenaline-fueled birthday celebration near St Petersburg. Following a successful jump and swing from a tower using an elastic rope, Liza’s decision to take a selfie proved fatal as she slipped and fell in front of her son, Nikita. The rope-jumping company 23block, responsible for the tower, mourned the loss of Liza, a dedicated member of their sports team, describing her passing as a profound tragedy for their community.
Similarly, a mountaineer in China, identified as Mr. Hong, met a fatal accident while attempting a selfie during a hike at Mount Nama in Sichuan. The 31-year-old man, separated from his hiking group, lost his footing near a crevasse after loosening his safety rope for photos on the snow-covered mountaintop. Witnesses watched helplessly as he plummeted 200 meters down the mountain, ultimately leading to his demise. Footage circulating on social media captured the tragic fall as emergency services arrived on the scene, only to confirm Mr. Hong’s unfortunate death.
