A devastated father has honored his “exceptional” sons who tragically died in a head-on collision. Mason Ellis, aged six, and Louie Ellis, aged eight, were passengers in a vehicle driven by their mother, Amy Sheppard, near Sutton on Sea in Lincolnshire when it veered out of control and crashed into an oncoming car in October 2023. Their mother received a 20-month suspended sentence at Lincoln Crown Court in December 2025, with Judge James House KC emphasizing the importance of showing mercy as part of his judicial duties.
Laurie Ellis, the boys’ father, has now paid tribute to his sons, describing them as “two remarkable boys whose love, laughter, and vitality filled every room they entered.” He expressed, “Louie’s spirit was full of joy and determination.”
According to Laurie, Louie enjoyed playing football every weekend with his dad and uncle, rain or shine. He was also an avid supporter of Liverpool FC, aspiring to become a professional footballer like his idol, Mo Salah.
When not outdoors, Louie spent his time playing video games or baking cookies with his siblings and stepmother, Charlotte. Laurie mentioned, “He cherished moments spent with his stepsisters and brother, always inclusive and welcoming with kindness and enthusiasm. Louie had a unique way of making others feel appreciated and loved.”
Laurie shared that Mason’s world was fueled by imagination and creativity. Mason loved Mario and transformed everyday experiences into adventures, inspired by games like Mario Kart, which brought him endless joy and laughter.
Additionally, Mason enjoyed spending time on his father’s gaming computer and having quiet moments with his grandfather, watching him craft wooden toys. Laurie emphasized, “Those moments, filled with love, patience, and gentle laughter, meant everything to him.”
Laurie also highlighted that the boys cherished outings with their grandmother and aunt, including visits to Adventure Land. He noted, “Both Louie and Mason deeply cared for their younger brother. They were exemplary big brothers – protective, caring, and immensely proud of him. He admired them greatly, following in their footsteps with pure admiration and love.”
Described as having “beautiful souls,” Louie and Mason were known for their kindness, warmth, and laughter, attracting people to them. Laurie expressed, “Our entire family adored them and cherished weekends together – filled with joy, love, and unity that words cannot fully capture. As their father, my love for Louie and Mason is infinite and unwavering. They were my world, my heart, my everything.”
Reflecting on his devastating loss, Laurie stated, “Losing them has left a profound void in my heart – a void that can never be filled. Their absence has deeply impacted our family, forever changing our lives.”
He affirmed that his children will always be deeply loved, forever missed, and never forgotten. Laurie concluded, “Their laughter, their bond, and their beautiful souls will endure forever in my heart and in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to have known them.”
