“Six Arrested After Manchester City Center Shooting”

Six individuals were apprehended following an incident in Manchester city center where a man sustained a gunshot wound to the leg early in the morning. The Greater Manchester Police responded to reports of a disturbance on Richmond Street near the Gay Village around 5 am on Saturday, January 24.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered an adult male with a leg injury consistent with a gunshot. The victim was hospitalized with injuries deemed non-life-threatening and not life-altering. The six arrested men, aged between 23 and 26, are held on suspicion of affray and firearms offenses as investigations progress, as per the Manchester Evening News.

A spokesperson from the Greater Manchester Police stated that the arrests were made in connection with firearms offenses following a firearms incident in the city center. Investigations are ongoing after officers were summoned to Richmond Street due to a disturbance and found the injured man with a gunshot wound.

Superintendent Stephen Wiggins of GMP’s City of Manchester division expressed concern over the incident, assuring the public that actions were taken swiftly to detain those involved, leading to the recovery of a firearm. The Serious Crime Division has confiscated 168 firearms since 2023, illustrating the severity with which gun crime is addressed. The incident is believed to be targeted, with no broader threat to public safety.

Police presence remains at the scene, with certain residences on Richmond Street being searched. Residents are advised to steer clear of the area while investigations continue.
