A retired fisherman is in critical condition following a vacation in India with his wife. Wayne Muress, 66, and his wife Maggie traveled to Goa for a 21-day holiday to enjoy life after Wayne’s lung cancer diagnosis forced him into retirement six years ago. Wayne fell ill on the beach in Goa, leading to his hospitalization where he remains.
Wayne’s nephew’s wife, Sam Piggott, reported that Wayne was put into a coma and underwent surgery while in the hospital. Wayne had been feeling unwell and was given antibiotics for a possible chest infection, but his condition worsened suddenly on the beach. He was later rushed to the hospital after experiencing stroke-like symptoms.
Despite initial consciousness, Wayne’s condition deteriorated, leading to him being placed in an induced coma. He underwent additional treatments, including a tracheostomy, and remains unconscious. Wayne’s family is now working to bring him back home from India, where he has incurred significant medical expenses.
A fundraising page has been set up to cover Wayne’s treatment costs and future repatriation expenses. Due to his pre-existing lung cancer, Wayne did not have travel insurance, making the family reliant on donations for his medical care and journey back home. Maggie and a close friend are currently with Wayne in India, supporting him during his recovery.
The family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support received through the fundraising page, highlighting Wayne’s character as a devoted West Ham fan and hardworking individual. They are hopeful for Wayne’s recovery and are focused on bringing him back to the UK as soon as possible.
