“Playground Tragedy: 10-Year-Old Girl Killed in Brazil Canopy Collapse”

Date:

A tragic incident at a playground in Brazil resulted in the death of a 10-year-old girl and injuries to several other children when a wooden outdoor canopy collapsed unexpectedly. The incident occurred at the Ville Vitoria condominium in Vespasiano, Minas Gerais state, on February 17. Lorrayne Rabelo Fernandes was found trapped under the pergola beams, suffering a cardiac arrest. Emergency services responded swiftly, but Lorrayne was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four other children, aged between four and 10, were also injured in the collapse. One boy was hospitalized with potential pelvic and spinal injuries, while two girls were treated for minor injuries and discharged. Lorrayne’s seven-year-old brother, Paulo Rabelo Fernandes, sustained head injuries but is now stable under medical care.

Local authorities, including military firefighters, emergency medical teams, and the police, quickly arrived at the scene. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the collapse and any potential liabilities. The condominium has sealed off the area and is cooperating with the authorities, expressing condolences to the affected families.

Following forensic examinations, Lorrayne’s body was released to her family for burial at a local cemetery. This incident follows another tragedy in São Carlos, where a baby boy drowned during his first birthday party earlier in the month. Despite immediate medical attention, the boy could not be saved after being rushed to the hospital.
