“Second Missing Swimmer Found in Devon Sea”

Date:

The body of the second swimmer who went missing in Budleigh Salterton on Christmas Day has been discovered. The man, believed to be 63-year-old Matthew Upham, was found in the sea off Exmouth, Devon, following a significant emergency response on January 25. Reports indicate that police and coastguard personnel were present near Orcombe Point at Exmouth, according to DevonLive.

Witnesses observed a restricted access cordon at Sandy Bay from Orcombe Point, with multiple police and coastguard vehicles in the area. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the recovery of the man’s body along the shoreline. A police spokesperson stated that emergency services received a report of a possible body near the shore at Exmouth Beach and subsequently recovered the body of a man. Formal identification is pending, but the family of a 64-year-old man from Budleigh Salterton has been notified.

In a separate incident earlier in the week, the body of the first missing swimmer was believed to have been found at Sandy Bay in Exmouth. Authorities responded to the scene on Tuesday morning. While formal identification is pending, authorities believe the individual to be the 47-year-old man who went missing at Budleigh Salterton. The identity of the man has not been disclosed, but his next of kin has been informed.
