A 12-year-old boy tragically passed away after being forced to consume scalding water, and he identified his alleged abuser moments before his death. Nizam Syafei, in Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia, indicated “mummy” as responsible for his injuries while in the hospital. Rushed to the hospital in the early hours, the child succumbed to his extensive injuries, including a scalded oesophagus, later that same day.
Reports from local media revealed that the boy’s body displayed injuries consistent with physical violence and burns, with doctors confirming severe burns to his oesophagus from drinking boiling water. In a circulating video, Nizam, prior to his death, pointed towards his stepmother and uttered “Mummy” when questioned about his injuries.
His father, Anwar Satibi, disclosed that Nizam had previously encountered domestic violence in 2025 at the hands of his stepmother, leading to a police report. Allegedly, Nizam was mistreated whenever disagreements arose with his stepmother’s adopted sons, while her other children were reportedly spared. Anwar, who was at work the night before his son’s demise, returned home to find Nizam covered in blisters and burns, despite being well earlier. An autopsy is underway to determine the exact cause of death, with the Sukabumi Police conducting an active investigation pending forensic results.
