“Farage Defends Deputy Amid Tax Probe Controversy”

Date:

Nigel Farage has declined to commit to an investigation into the tax affairs of his deputy at Reform UK, Richard Tice, following reports of significant donations from Tice’s companies to the party. Allegations surfaced that four shell companies owned by Tice did not pay approximately £100,000 in taxes on profits earned between 2020 and 2022. Labour criticized Farage for defending Tice and accused him of avoiding the issue.

Tice’s property investment firm, Tisun Investments Ltd, reportedly transferred £1,113,000 to Reform UK. When questioned about a potential probe into Tice’s companies’ tax matters now that they are directly linked to the party, Farage evaded the question and implied that Tice was being unfairly targeted.

Calls have arisen for Tice to be removed from his position following an investigation by the Sunday Times, which raised concerns about his tax practices. Tice indicated that he would rectify any discrepancies if it is found that his firms owe more taxes to HMRC.

Farage recounted a past scenario where Tice, a vocal supporter of Brexit, faced an investigation by HMRC, ultimately receiving a tax rebate. He defended Tice’s business history, highlighting the ongoing scrutiny as a consequence of challenging the system. Farage also pointed out that the individual accusing Tice is associated with the Labour Party.

Tice emphasized his extensive business career, spanning multiple countries and companies, and stated that he has consistently followed professional tax advice and paid all advised amounts. He acknowledged the importance of tax efficiency while being willing to correct any errors in tax calculations.

In response to criticism from Labour, Tice maintained his commitment to rectifying any potential tax issues and emphasized his focus on serving his constituents and supporting the country. He expressed frustration over what he perceived as a campaign to tarnish his reputation, deterring successful businesspeople from entering politics.

Tice affirmed his dedication to public service and highlighted his efforts to contribute positively to the community and political landscape despite facing ongoing scrutiny.
