A woman shared her harrowing experience of being lured out of her home, kidnapped, Tasered, and taken to a remote moorland, causing her to suffer from PTSD. In a recent trial, it was revealed that the victim was unlawfully confined at two locations, subjected to a Taser attack, strip searched, and threatened with abandonment on the moors.
Janzib Rigby, a money lender, and Kimberley Green were sentenced for their involvement in the kidnapping of a 28-year-old woman who was coerced into Green’s residence. The court condemned the defendants for subjecting the victim to a distressing and prolonged ordeal.
Apart from Rigby and Green, Marshall Atkinson, Cody McGiffen, and an unnamed 17-year-old accomplice were also convicted in the case. Green spotted the victim near her home and deceived her into entering the house, setting off a chain of traumatic events leading to the victim’s PTSD.
The victim was physically assaulted and robbed by the perpetrators, with Atkinson and the teenager using a Taser on her. The judge highlighted the cruelty of their actions and the psychological impact on the victim, who sought help from her mother to secure her release.
After a day of negotiation with the police, the victim was relocated to another property and eventually taken to Saddleworth Moor, where she was threatened with abandonment. Fortunately, she was rescued by the authorities before further harm could be inflicted.
In a statement read in court, the victim described the lasting mental health struggles she faces as a result of the ordeal, including self-harm and suicidal thoughts. Rigby and Green received jail sentences, while the other defendants were handed youth rehabilitation or community orders.
The court found Rigby guilty of multiple charges, including false imprisonment and robbery. Atkinson admitted to false imprisonment and drug possession, while Green was convicted of false imprisonment, robbery, and kidnapping. McGiffen was found guilty of false imprisonment and kidnapping, and the 17-year-old admitted to false imprisonment and weapon possession.
The sentencing of the defendants shed light on the severe impact of their actions on the victim’s mental well-being, underscoring the need for justice and accountability in cases of abduction and assault.
