“Met Office Issues Snow Alerts for 13 Regions”

Date:

Two Met Office alerts have been issued for snow across 13 regions starting today. The first yellow warning, active from overnight until 3pm tomorrow, encompasses significant areas in eastern and northern Scotland. Weather experts anticipate rain in the affected zones transitioning to sleet and snow by Wednesday.

Snowfall ranging from 1cm to 3cm is projected above 100 meters by Wednesday, with some areas above 200 meters possibly receiving up to 20cm. The wintry mix could cause disruptions in transportation services like roads, buses, and trains today and tomorrow.

Another yellow warning is in place for the Shetland Islands from 6 pm today until the end of Wednesday. Showers are expected to intensify into persistent snowfall from Tuesday evening through Wednesday, with snow accumulations of 1cm to 3cm widely predicted and up to 10cm over elevated terrains.

Residents in the warned areas are advised to plan their journeys ahead and have essential supplies in their vehicles for potential delays.

Meanwhile, southern England has experienced heavy rainfall since Monday. A yellow warning is active from Monday evening until 7pm on Tuesday for areas in the southwest, where additional rainfall could result in flooding and disturbances.

The Met Office’s forecast for today indicates persistent rain moving northward across the south, with additional rain and hill snow in northeast Scotland. Cloudy conditions are expected with occasional dry spells between weather systems, while clearer intervals are forecasted in the southwest.

Later in the day, the rain will progress northward, transitioning to snow over higher elevations in Wales, the Pennines, and eastern Scotland. The north will be windy and cold, with clearer conditions in the south accompanied by showers.

Looking ahead to Wednesday, the Met Office anticipates rain and hill snow to be concentrated in the north, remaining windy in the northeast. Southern regions will experience drier conditions with some sunny intervals, and milder temperatures compared to the colder north.
