The teenage daughter of former Olympic champion Andy Turner, Carmen Gaynor-Turner, is currently stuck in Dubai, where she traveled alone for the first time. She has been facing frightening situations, seeking shelter in her AirBnB flat as Iranian drones and missiles were intercepted above the city. Carmen, aged 19, went to the UAE last week after securing a job offer as an estate agent.
Her trip turned into a nightmare within a day as tensions escalated following an attack by Donald Trump on Iran, leading to retaliatory strikes in the Middle East. Carmen expressed her desperation to return home, emphasizing the fear and uncertainty she has been experiencing during her stay.
She described how the tower block where she stayed shook as missiles were intercepted, causing disruptions and sleepless nights. Despite her scheduled flight being canceled, Carmen managed to secure a seat on an Emirates flight back to Manchester. She has since moved to a safer location away from the main targets of the attacks but remains cautious and mostly indoors.
Carmen’s family, including her father, Andy Turner, a former track and field athlete, are anxiously monitoring the situation and preparing backup plans in case her return flight faces further disruptions. Carmen’s mother, Natalie Gaynor-Turner, expressed her distress over the situation, highlighting the stressful ordeal her daughter is going through and the family’s concerns for her safety.
