“Life Sentence for Murder of Promising Woman”

Date:

A man has been sentenced to life in prison after the murder of a 23-year-old woman identified as a promising individual. Adedapo Adegbola, aged 40, admitted to fatally stabbing Stephanie ‘Steph’ Irons at her residence in Mapperley, Nottingham, on October 21, 2025.

Stephanie’s coworkers grew worried when they received distressing messages from her on the night of the incident and promptly contacted Nottinghamshire Police. Authorities discovered her severely wounded in the living room of her home on Westdale Lane West around 10 pm. Tragically, she was declared deceased shortly after.

Following the attack, Adegbola fled the scene, leaving behind blood-stained footwear and clothing in Mapperley and Carlton. He turned himself in at Oxclose Police Station the next day.

At a recent hearing at Nottingham Crown Court, Adegbola, residing on Woodborough Road in Mapperley, was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 25 years. Nottinghamshire Police disclosed that another individual, Mary Onolunosen from Leeming Street, Mansfield, has been charged with aiding an offender and is slated to appear in Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on March 6.

During the sentencing session, prosecutor Peter Joyce KC highlighted Adegbola’s abnormal behavior as reported by colleagues, indicating tension arising from the relationship’s termination. The prosecution detailed Adegbola’s actions leading up to the murder, emphasizing his refusal to accept the relationship’s end and his obsessive behavior towards Stephanie.

Defense attorney Richard Thatcher acknowledged Adegbola’s surrender to authorities and expressed his client’s genuine remorse for the crime. However, Judge Nirmal Shant KC, in sentencing Adegbola, underscored the defendant’s refusal to acknowledge the relationship’s conclusion, leading to Stephanie’s tragic demise. Judge Shant condemned Adegbola’s actions, emphasizing the profound impact on Stephanie’s loved ones and the irreplaceable loss caused by his crime.

Stephanie’s family, in a previous statement, described her as a radiant individual with aspirations to become a clinical psychologist, emphasizing the void left by her untimely death. The family expressed their enduring grief over the loss of their beloved Stephanie, remembering her as a beacon of positivity and kindness.
