Police are seeking a man for questioning following an incident where a railway worker was sprayed in the face with a chemical substance, resulting in chemical burns and temporary vision impairment. The disturbing attack occurred at Blackfriars Station in London on May 17 last year. The incident unfolded around 6pm when four individuals evaded paying at the barriers upon exiting a train from Sevenoaks. When confronted by the railway worker, one of the men instigated the situation, prompting the others to escape.
During the altercation, the fare-dodger reunited with his companions, and one of them used a Lucozade bottle to spray an unidentified liquid into the victim’s face before all four fled the scene. The worker immediately experienced a burning sensation in his eyes and suffered vision loss. He was promptly taken to the hospital, where medical professionals confirmed chemical burns on his face and eyes.
British Transport Police have released a CCTV image of a person of interest linked to the assault. The authorities described the attack as “horrific,” emphasizing that the victim was merely carrying out his duties when targeted. Detective Constable Victoria Callaghan urged anyone who can identify the individual in the footage to come forward and assist with the investigation.
