“Man Found with Deceased Puppies and Assaulted Woman in U-Haul Van”

Date:

A man was found with deceased puppies and a young woman who had been physically assaulted inside a U-Haul van. Police responded to concerns about animal welfare and discovered the van with obscured windows on February 3. Upon inspection, they found seven dogs inside, with four of them dead, along with a 19-year-old woman.

The woman disclosed that she had been a victim of physical violence and identified James Williams, 34, as the person responsible for the assault and for keeping her confined in the van. Williams was apprehended by authorities and found in possession of suspected methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia, and multiple identification cards belonging to various women.

Following the incident in Connecticut, Williams faced charges including cruelty to animals, cruelty to persons, drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and assault. The police retrieved the surviving dogs from the van and transferred them to Groton Town Animal Control. The deceased puppies were taken to the University of Connecticut for a necropsy to determine the cause of death.

Williams’ bond was initially set at $250,000 (£182,000) but was later doubled to $500,000 (£367,495). He had a court appearance scheduled for February 4. Details about whether Williams is still in custody or has legal representation remain unclear. The identity of the woman and her relationship with Williams have not been disclosed.
