Christian Horner’s recent appearance at a MotoGP race has sparked speculation about his potential entry into the world of motorcycle racing. The former Red Bull team principal was seen at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez, hinting at a possible shift towards the premier class of two-wheeled motorsport.
Having been let go by Red Bull last year, the 52-year-old has been exploring avenues to rejoin the Formula 1 scene. Despite rumors linking him to roles at Aston Martin and Alpine, Horner remains without a clear path back into the sport.
Toto Wolff, a former rival from Mercedes, has implied that Horner’s return to F1 could be challenging due to past controversies. MotoGP, now under the umbrella of F1’s parent company Liberty Media, might offer Horner a fresh opportunity.
During the weekend, Horner spent time in the Honda garage, engaging in discussions with Honda Racing Corporation CEO Koji Watanabe and meeting with key figures from Ducati, the reigning world champions.
Expressing his admiration for MotoGP, Horner mentioned his long-standing interest in the sport and his appreciation for its evolution. His presence at the MotoGP event marked a return after his last visit in 2005.
In an interview, Horner acknowledged his curiosity about other forms of motorsport and denied concrete plans for team ownership at the moment, emphasizing that his attendance was purely for exploration and learning purposes.
Meanwhile, Wolff’s potential investment in Alpine could complicate Horner’s prospects in F1, as both parties are eyeing stakes in the team. Wolff clarified that any rivalry between him and Horner regarding the stake acquisition is unfounded.
If Horner decides to venture into MotoGP, he would follow in the footsteps of Guenther Steiner, ex-Haas team principal, who led a consortium to acquire the Red Bull KTM Tech3 team last year.
Horner witnessed an exciting sprint race at the MotoGP event, won by Marc Marquez, the reigning world champion. The main Grand Prix event was scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
