An inquest revealed that a man, Paul Andrew Williams, ended his life after being confronted by paedophile hunters. His body was discovered near Caernarfon’s historic town walls. Reports stated that Williams had been arrested following an encounter with Underworld paedophile hunters which was live-streamed on Facebook.
Police found a letter written by Williams detailing the negative impact of the hunters’ actions, leading to the loss of his job, a significant part of his life. The assistant coroner, Sarah Riley, determined that Williams, a former senior quality assurance officer for a food company, had intended to commit suicide.
The inquest heard that a detective supervised an investigation into Williams after the Underworld group alleged he had engaged in inappropriate communication with minors. Despite no evidence of indecent images or attempts to meet children, Williams was cautioned by the authorities before his death.
CCTV footage showed Williams walking towards the seafront before entering the water, where his body was later found. The cause of death was ruled as drowning, with coronary heart disease listed as a contributing factor. Williams, a father of two, had a background in the food industry and previously owned a chocolate shop and ran a pub.
