A van driver had a lucky escape when a deer crashed through the windshield during a terrifying accident. The deer’s antlers were left protruding from the van’s glass after the collision in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The 29-year-old driver had no way to avoid the sudden leap of the deer in front of the van around 7 am. The impact flung the deer into the cabin, causing severe injuries to the animal. Fortunately, the driver only sustained minor injuries, while the deer had to be euthanized by a hunter at the scene.
The collision resulted in significant damage to the van, with repair costs reaching approximately €15,000 (£13,100), as reported by Bild. Firefighters were called to recover the vehicle, and the road was closed for an hour for cleanup.
Authorities in Germany are cautioning drivers to be vigilant for wildlife, especially on rural roads, following this incident that demonstrated how quickly a routine commute can turn tragic.
In a separate incident last month in Dublin, a horse broke free from its cart during a funeral procession and collided head-on with a car. The incident occurred in Clondalkin, a village west of Dublin, where a horse-drawn cart was part of the procession. Despite efforts to control the horse, it ran a red light and crashed into a passing vehicle, shocking onlookers.
Videos of the aftermath showed the injured horse with a swollen face and head, receiving attention from caretakers. Animal rescue organization My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue called for an investigation into the incident, denouncing it as an act of lawlessness and cruelty.
