The Met Office has forecasted the possibility of widespread snowfall over the upcoming weekend, particularly targeting a significant region.
According to the national weather agency, Northern Ireland and Scotland may experience some sunshine on Friday while rain is expected to move southward. Coastal areas could see snowfall as well.
In contrast, Southern regions are likely to face cloudy and wet conditions on Friday, which are anticipated to improve as the day progresses.
As we head into the weekend, Saturday is expected to feel notably colder than recent days, despite the presence of bright skies and sunny intervals. However, Sunday is predicted to bring substantial snowfall, especially in the northern regions, with the weather remaining unsettled into the following week.
Looking ahead, the Met Office’s forecast for February 17 to 26 suggests that showers or prolonged rainy spells are probable, along with occasional strong winds. Additionally, areas in the north might experience heavy rain and possible snowfall on higher ground.
Temperatures are anticipated to fluctuate from average to cold later in the month, with the possibility of drier periods in between weather systems. Towards the end of the period, there could be a shift towards more settled conditions.
BBC Weather’s outlook for the upcoming week indicates that the temporary widespread cold will likely give way to milder conditions as high pressure weakens and low pressure develops near Iceland. This shift may bring wet and windy weather, with above-average rainfall amounts and potential flooding risks in southern regions. Some snowfall is also expected on higher ground in the north.
Moreover, high pressure building over the eastern Atlantic could result in brighter but colder interludes with wintry showers on north to north-westerly winds.
