“Son Sues Family Over £5M Estate Exclusion”

Date:

A mother has excluded her son from receiving her £5 million estate after allegations of infidelity, causing her great embarrassment.

Gary MacDougall, aged 70, anticipated sharing his multi-millionaire mother Jeanne MacDougall’s assets with his sister Sandra Thomas, 65, and her husband Philip. However, a revision to her will in 2011, along with property transactions and gifts, resulted in Gary being left with no inheritance from his mother’s fortune upon her passing in April 2020.

In response, Gary is taking legal action in the High Court to challenge his mother’s last will, alleging that his sister and brother-in-law exploited £1.685 million of Jeanne’s finances while she was alive. He asserts that they manipulated his mother into gifting them a £1.7 million property when she lacked mental capacity, despite earlier assurances that it would be his.

Although suggestions have been made that Gary’s affair with a council worker led to his disinheritance, he denies this claim, stating that his mother would have directly addressed any displeasure regarding his actions. The MacDougall family’s wealth stemmed from their father’s substantial real estate investments in west London, which generated substantial profits from properties in Acton and Ealing.

Gary’s legal representative contends that their parents had planned for both siblings to receive equal financial treatment and inheritance, with properties allocated accordingly. However, a subsequent will in 2011 altered the distribution, leaving Gary with minimal assets due to estate administration expenses.

Allegations of elder abuse and financial mismanagement have arisen, with Gary asserting that his sister and her husband mishandled their mother’s funds and assets. The ongoing trial seeks to clarify the circumstances surrounding the estate’s distribution and the validity of the contested will.

The legal proceedings continue as Gary seeks to challenge the outcomes of his mother’s will and the handling of her estate by his sister and brother-in-law.
