Iran has issued threats to target tourist sites globally, in response to military actions by the US and Israel. General Abolfazl Shekarchi, Iran’s top military spokesperson, warned that parks, recreational areas, and tourist destinations around the world would not be safe for their enemies. This warning came on the same day when two Iranian missiles were launched towards the joint US-UK military base on Diego Garcia, an island in the Indian Ocean approximately 2,500 miles away from Iran. One missile failed, and the other was intercepted.
The exact type of missiles used remains unknown, but experts suggest they could be a version of Iran’s Khorramshah missile, based on a North Korean model with a range exceeding 1,200 miles. Iranian missiles are estimated to have a range between 1,240 and 1,860 miles, with Israeli estimates suggesting they could reach up to 2,485 miles.
Recent conflicts have resulted in casualties, with over 1,500 deaths in Iran due to US-Israeli strikes since February 28. In Lebanon, more than 1,000 people have been killed by Israeli attacks, leading to over a million displacements. There have been reports of Israeli ground forces engaging with Hezbollah militants, resulting in intense gunfire and explosions in southern Lebanon.
On the other side, Israel has reported 15 casualties, while 13 US service members have died in combat, along with civilians in the Gulf region. US President Donald Trump claimed to have had productive discussions with Iran about resolving conflicts in the Middle East. However, Iran’s parliament speaker, Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf, dismissed reports of negotiations with the US as fake news, accusing the US and Israel of spreading misinformation for financial and political gain.
