After his appearance at a Miami event hosted by the Saudi Arabia sovereign wealth fund, Donald Trump hinted at the idea of renaming the crucial shipping route known as the Strait of Hormuz to the Strait of Trump.
During his speech on Friday evening, Trump reassured the audience that the US military is making progress in the ongoing conflict with Iran, particularly focusing on Iran’s blockade of the critical Strait of Hormuz, which has disrupted global trade. In a light-hearted moment, Trump mistakenly referred to the strait as the “Strait of Trump,” quickly correcting himself and dismissing any potential media criticism.
Drawing a parallel to a previous renaming incident, Trump recalled his suggestion to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, emphasizing his authority to make such changes swiftly.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has established a task force to address the humanitarian and agricultural challenges arising from the Iran war’s impact on the waterway. The task force, consisting of experts from various UN agencies, will work on developing strategies to ensure the smooth passage of essential aid through the strait.
In response to the UN’s initiative, the Iranian ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva confirmed Iran’s cooperation in facilitating the safe transit of critical humanitarian aid and agriculture shipments through the strait, underscoring Iran’s commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts.
