An intense fire broke out at Kuwait International Airport as a result of drones striking fuel tanks, causing a fierce blaze as captured in a video showing firefighters combating the flames amidst thick black smoke on Saturday.
The attack targeted Kuwait International Airport, damaging fuel tanks and the radar system, as confirmed by state news agency KUNA. The Kuwait Army’s footage of the fire illustrates the extensive efforts to extinguish it.
Due to severe structural damage from previous drone attacks, Kuwait International Airport (PKWI) remains completely closed to commercial passenger traffic, with no incoming or outgoing flights currently operational.
The Kuwaiti Army Fire Department provided support to the General Fire Force in extinguishing the fire caused by the attack on the airport’s fuel tanks, as stated in an official post.
Authorities reported the launch of 15 Iranian drones towards Kuwait within the last 24 hours, with Tehran increasingly targeting Gulf nations like Kuwait due to their support for the US military.
Iran claims that these strikes are retaliatory actions against military operations carried out by Israel and the US.
No injuries were reported from the incident. The Public Authority of Civil Aviation (PACA) disclosed that drones targeted a fuel tank at Kuwait International Airport, leading to a fire, with initial reports indicating material damage and no casualties.
Abdullah Al-Rajhi, the official spokesperson, confirmed to KUNA that there were no casualties and only material damage resulting from the attack.
