“Trapped Worshipers in Ghana School Collapse”

Date:

More than 30 individuals are feared to be trapped beneath debris following the collapse of a four-story school building. The incident occurred at the Accra New Town Experimental Basic School in the capital city of Ghana after heavy rainfall on Sunday. The structure, constructed 14 years ago, was being used by Christian worshippers at the time of the collapse.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the precise number of individuals trapped or injured. Reports from local media indicate that over 30 worshippers are believed to be trapped, while another outlet suggests the number could be over 40. Up to eight people have been rescued as per information from 3News.

Following the collapse, residents and onlookers swiftly responded to the scene, assisting in the rescue efforts using basic tools and bare hands until official emergency services arrived. The Ghana Police Service, the National Disaster Management Organization, and the Ghana National Fire Service are actively engaged in the ongoing rescue operations.

Accra experienced severe flooding overnight, affecting various neighborhoods such as Nima, Kaneshie, Dansoman, Kasoa, and Mallam Junction. Despite a 24-hour warning issued by the Ghana Meteorological Agency, the flooding resulted in power outages across the Greater Accra region in the southeastern part of the country.

This incident follows a tragic military helicopter crash in southern Ghana last year, which claimed the lives of all eight individuals on board, including government officials. The helicopter was en route from Accra to the gold-mining region of Obuasi when it lost contact and later crashed in the Ashanti region.
