“Instagram Influencer Faces Legal Action Over In-Flight Prank”

Date:

An internet personality is facing potential legal repercussions for his actions during an overseas flight. Yeferson Cossio, with a massive following of 12.5 million on Instagram, reportedly recorded a prank for social media purposes but has not yet shared the footage following a ban from Avianca on his return trip.

The incident occurred on a flight from Bogotá, Colombia, to Madrid, Spain, earlier this month, where the Colombian influencer allegedly used a device that replicated realistic flatulence sounds and an unpleasant smell. Reports indicate that a female passenger was greatly offended by the stunt, prompting the airline to announce their intention to take action against the influencer.

Avianca cited section 8.6 of their terms and conditions, which pertains to behavior impacting safety, comfort, order, and discipline on the aircraft. They highlighted that the prank occurred over the Atlantic Ocean on March 11, in a location where emergency landings were not feasible due to the distance to the nearest airport.

The airline emphasized that such actions in an enclosed environment with a pressurized air system pose a direct risk to other passengers. They noted that the influencer activated the device with the aim of provoking reactions from fellow passengers in the cabin.

Avianca stated, “Avianca categorically denounces any conduct that endangers the safety of its operations and disrupts the onboard experience for customers and staff.” As of now, Cossio has not responded to the legal measures announced by the airline.

In a separate incident, Cossio made headlines in 2023 for undergoing a painful leg-lengthening surgery to increase his height from 5’8” (1.77m) to 6’07” (1.85m). Following the surgery, which he described as excruciating and costly, he required crutches and a wheelchair for over a year but has since recovered and returned to his usual activities.

Originating from Antioquia, Colombia, Cossio explained that his decision to undergo the surgery stemmed from a past leg injury that had never fully healed.
