The main suspect in the Madeleine McCann case, Christian Brueckner, has been accused of evading German police in a cat-and-mouse game. Brueckner, a convicted sex offender, has been under constant police surveillance since his release last September. He recently relocated to the Schleswig-Holstein region after moving from Braunschweig for the fourth time.
Authorities stated that Brueckner has been trying to outmaneuver the police, showing discontent with the surveillance in Braunschweig. Brueckner is the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine, who went missing in Portugal in 2007. He previously served time for a rape case in the same area where Madeleine disappeared.
Reportedly, Brueckner has tested the patience of officers, particularly when under the influence of alcohol. He managed to escape briefly on a bicycle in one incident and even called the emergency number to inquire about his police escort. Brueckner, currently living on benefits with a monitoring tag, has bragged about eluding police surveillance under the cover of darkness.
Brueckner recently left Braunschweig and is now in another federal state. Prior to Braunschweig, he moved across northern Germany, facing backlash from neighbors and threats. Despite being acquitted of additional charges, experts have labeled him as a highly dangerous offender. Prosecutors have appealed his acquittal, and the case is under review by Germany’s Federal Court of Justice.
Brueckner maintains his innocence regarding Madeleine’s disappearance, stating that he expects no charges against him.
