Russia launched a significant attack using nearly 350 drones on Ukraine, resulting in widespread fires and casualties. The assault targeted various locations including Lutsk, Khmelnytsky, and Nikopol, where Ukrainian defense forces engaged in intercepting the incoming missiles.
In Lutsk, Russian troops initiated an attack early on Wednesday, directing drones at industrial structures, leading to fires. Subsequent strikes hit a local warehouse and a residential building. Nikopol was also targeted, causing injuries to 11 individuals and damaging residential and commercial properties.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia deployed 339 unmanned aerial vehicles, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas drones, with the majority being Shahed drones. Ukrainian defenses successfully countered the air assault using fighter jets, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, unmanned systems, and mobile fire groups.
Ukraine managed to neutralize or bring down 298 Russian drones across different regions, while 20 strike UAVs struck 11 locations. Notably, debris from downed drones fell in five additional areas. These attacks followed a series of Ukrainian offensives targeting Russia’s industrial infrastructure to impact its financial capabilities for sustaining the conflict.
According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russian forces have suffered significant losses since the war began in February 2022, with over a million troops affected by death or injury. Additionally, thousands of troops have been killed in battles, along with substantial aircraft losses and warships sunk by Ukrainian special forces.
Criticism towards Russian military tactics and leadership has emerged among pro-Kremlin bloggers, acknowledging the effectiveness of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in resisting Russian advances. There are concerns about a potential spring offensive in eastern and southern Ukraine facing challenges and heavy losses for Russia, as Ukraine’s military strength and strategic effectiveness are being recognized by some within Russia.
