Massive smoke plumes have been spotted at a British motor oil company in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan region in Iraq, following drone strikes amidst ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The Castrol oil plant, owned by the Sardar Group, was set ablaze by a drone attack, causing significant damage to the stored oil and logistical materials. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the staff at the site.
The incident is part of the escalating conflict that started on February 28, involving drone attacks on neighboring countries like Iraq, disrupting gulf shipping and damaging crucial oil infrastructure, impacting Iraq’s ability to export crude oil, which is vital for its revenue.
Erbil governor Omid Xoshnaw confirmed that multiple drone strikes hit the Castrol oil warehouses, with firefighters struggling to contain the blaze. The facility was targeted by a total of four drones, with one intercepted mid-air before reaching its destination.
Iran’s ambassador to the UK, Mr. Mousavi, expressed concerns over British military bases allegedly supporting actions against Iran, hinting at potential retaliatory measures. The situation remains tense as Iran evaluates its response based on ongoing developments involving the UK’s military activities.
