An air fryer caused a fire that resulted in the tragic death of an 11-year-old girl and a 45-year-old man in Grimoldby, near Louth, Lincolnshire. The incident occurred at a Chinese restaurant where emergency services responded at 6:10 am on Wednesday. The victims were taken to the hospital, with the girl and man succumbing to the blaze.
Five other individuals were also hospitalized, including a woman in her 30s in serious condition. Two men in their 40s and two children under ten have been discharged. The Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue investigation confirmed the accidental fire was linked to the use of the air fryer.
Chief Fire Officer Mark Baxter expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of life and the injuries sustained. The fire, which was determined to have started due to the air fryer igniting nearby objects, has deeply affected the family, friends, and the community.
The road, Manby Middlegate, was temporarily closed for investigation before reopening. Chief Superintendent Philip Baker urged people not to speculate on the cause of the fire, emphasizing the ongoing investigative process to uncover the facts.
