A woman was discovered deceased following a mountain hike on the Sunshine Coast shortly after she was heard calling for help. Authorities responded to Mount Tibrogargan after a hiker reported hearing distress calls around 8:40 am. Following a search, the woman’s body was found at approximately 10:30 am.
The exact cause of her death is currently unknown, but it is suspected that she, potentially alone, fell during her hike. Law enforcement will be preparing a report for the coroner regarding the incident.
Mount Tibrogargan, situated in the Glass House Mountains on the Sunshine Coast, is a peak reaching 364 meters above sea level, ranking as the third-highest among the Glass House Mountains after Mount Beerwah and Mount Coonowrin.
The mountain is a popular destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts from Australia and other countries. However, Queensland’s Department of Environment and Tourism advises that individuals attempting the summit routes must possess advanced climbing skills, fitness levels, and experience in rock scrambling. They caution that the routes include exposed, steep rocky sections with loose stones, requiring caution and skill.
Tragically, last month, two teenagers lost their lives after falling up to 100 meters from Mount Beerwah, also located in the Glass Mountains National Park. Lorielle Russell, 18, and Jack Thatcher, 18, were hiking on March 15 when they slipped in wet conditions. Ms. Russell passed away at the scene, while Mr. Thatcher succumbed to his injuries in the hospital days later.
