A Nottingham woman named Sophie Downing recently made an unexpected discovery while using a gift voucher she received for Christmas. Initially thought to be worth £10 at 200 Degrees Coffee, the voucher’s balance turned out to be an astonishing £63 quadrillion, making her theoretically the wealthiest person in history.
Despite being 100,000 times richer than Elon Musk based on the voucher’s value, Downing can only spend the money on coffee and croissants. The enormous balance, equivalent to a thousand trillion, surpasses the total world economy by 670 times. However, Downing remains grounded, finding humor in the situation and expressing disbelief at the unprecedented amount.
During her lunch break on February 12, Downing first used the gift card at a 200 Degrees coffee shop in Nottingham, where the excessive balance became apparent. The cashier’s confusion was evident when the till displayed the astronomical figure, prompting Downing to receive the unusual receipt.
Although she used the gift card again and the balance remained in quadrillions, Downing has decided to refrain from further transactions with it. Speculating that a scanning error may have led to the inflated balance, she jokingly mentioned the possibility of purchasing the entire shop’s inventory but opted to act responsibly.
Downing, a 29-year-old entrepreneur running the Secret Sugar Club, remains in good humor about the situation, noting that 200 Degrees has not addressed the issue with her. She believes that an error in scanning the voucher’s barcode might have caused the extraordinary balance and prefers to avoid taking advantage of the situation.
