A tragic incident occurred off the coast of Tenerife where a British man lost his life in a suspected drowning. The 28-year-old man was seen struggling in the sea around 300 meters from the fishing harbor of Puerto de Santiago. Despite efforts by a lifeguard on a jet ski, the man was already deceased when brought ashore by coastguards.
Authorities mentioned that there were no signs of foul play on the man’s body, and his death was not considered suspicious. The deceased, a resident of Tenerife, had been alone when he entered the water. Following the incident, a post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
The body was transferred to a Spanish coastguard vessel, Salvamar Menkalinan, before being taken to San Juan Beach. The coastguard reported their involvement in recovering the body from the sea and transporting it to shore.
Details about the man’s identity and how long he had been living in Tenerife remain undisclosed at this time. Notably, another British individual passed away previously on January 21 after swimming at El Duque beach in Costa Adeje. Despite efforts by medical personnel, the individual could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
