“Lorry Trapped in Sinkhole on Lamer Street”

Date:

A sinkhole on Lamer Street in Dunbar, located about 30 miles east of Edinburgh, caused a lorry to become trapped while attempting to repair the sinkhole. The sinkhole led to a month-long road closure, with contractors called in to address the issue. However, the large HGV vehicle sent to the site ended up stuck in the same sinkhole it was supposed to fix.

Photos taken by a local resident depict the silver lorry tilted to one side, with one wheel lodged inside the sinkhole. The resident, who chose to remain anonymous, mentioned a series of sinkholes emerging after damage to a nearby sea wall. The resident stated, “Another sinkhole appeared – the one they’re repairing now.”

East Lothian Council confirmed that the sinkhole resulted from damage to the nearby sea wall, leading to ongoing road closures for repair work. A council spokesperson mentioned that Lamer Street had been closed to both vehicles and pedestrians due to the sinkhole caused by the breached sea wall. Remedial work commenced promptly after the breach, with contractors working on the final repairs when two additional small holes appeared.

The council spokesperson further stated that the contractor’s HGV had been removed, and the area secured for safety. Additional investigations by council officers are ongoing, with updates provided to the community. The closure of Lamer Street will continue until the repair work is completed.
